First shots on the X100VI 📸
Photography was something I loved during university but I quietly stopped. Nothing dramatic, I just slowly stopped bringing out my camera. The size of lugging it with me in a bag and multiple lenses started to hold me back. In recent years I wanted to get back out there and something small and compact that I could have in my jacket pocket or bag was exactly what I was looking for. Enter the Fujifilm X100VI. I originally wanted the X100V but as I spent years waiting for the right time to buy this camera the new one came out and both cameras were already impossible to grab. I saw an X100VI going secondhand and knew that this was my time.
This isn’t going to be a review or first impressions or talking about my experience with the camera. Something like that will eventually come but instead I just want to briefly share some of the photos I’ve taken over the last few weeks with this camera. I’ve been shooting in aperture priority mode with a hard limit on my ISO of 3200 so the camera won’t push higher, though it’s more than capable of doing so. Speed and just taking pictures is what I’m looking for and aperture priority does just that. In the next few months I will talk more in detail about technical specs, features, recipes, accessories and how I’ve been using this camera but for now let’s jump into some photos.
Before talking about this photo I should caveat that I’ve been using a 10% cinebloom filter on my camera which adds to the effect of the overall pictures. This first photo is a week after the recent fire at Glasgow Central Station. This was a devastating fire for the station, local businesses and for Glasgow. Demolition staff are being brought into the area to inspect what is left of the collapsed portion of the building and another onlooker can be seen photographing the collapsed building. I, like many other Glaswegians, am nervous to hear about what will be done with this space. Will the new building honour the Glaswegian architecture and heritage or will they build something modern? Personally I’m hopeful they will honour what came before.
This next picture is taken at Mugdock Country Park. This country park is a personal favourite of mine to visit, with a wonderful coffee shop and beautiful scenery. The resulting photo is incredibly atmospheric and almost feels like something out of a dream, at least to me. There are little hints of wildlife and modern life in this photo which almost bring it back to reality but I like to imagine this picture is a still from some kind of fantasy. The incredibly grey day almost makes it look as if there is fog but I can assure you the day was overcast with no fog. This is my personal favourite of the 3 photos.
The last photo shows that spring is finally here! After what has been a very rainy winter with sadly no snow (at least in Glasgow) we have a little sunshine and some warmer weather. This photo shows Glaswegians coming out to enjoy the Botanic Gardens with clear skies. Hopefully the clear skies and warm weather continue!
I’m hoping to share more pictures on this site as time goes on and keep an eye out for my dedicated article on the Fujifilm X100VI! If you’d like to see more of these photos ahead of my posts then make sure to follow me on Instagram and subscribe to the blog for more content like this!
