My top 5 games 👾

My top 5 favourite games
My top 5 favourite games

Been a while! Amongst training for my half marathon I’ve unfortunately injured myself… Meaning I’ve had to take two weeks out of running and generally avoiding any kind of movement. Which has given me plenty of time to catch up with some games! Games are and always will be one of my passions, the stories they can immerse you in are second to none. So I thought what better than to tell you about my top 5 favourite games of all time. It was hard to rank these but I’ve done my best. Without further ado lets jump in!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Of all the games on this list, if you can only play one of them then this is the game I’d tell you to play. You of course play as the legendary hero Link on his quest to recover his memories and discover what has befallen the kingdom of Hyrule. Along the way you meet some incredible characters, explore picturesque towns and villages and battle with some very difficult bosses. The visual style, inspired by anime, and the new open world format was a bold new change for the Zelda series and the DNA of Breath of the Wild can be felt in many many games since it launched. The music is another part of this game that I will never forget, the calmness it can bestow but also the instant panic and fear… if you know you know. If you've never played it, I'm oh so jealous. Get out there and give it a go.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This is the game that made me fall in love with the fantasy genre. I’d played plenty of fantasy games prior to this but none that had the same awe and scale as the world of Skyrim. Playing as the legendary figure the Dragonborn, but don’t be fooled, this is an RPG. You can make your own destiny and forge your own path. Skyrim offers you plenty of different paths and choices that can give you a unique experience every time you play Skyrim. Each time I play this game I try out a new character, a different race, and intend to focus on a different style of combat but somehow I always end up coming back to some kind of mage… If you want to travel across a vast snowy country and battle dragons then this is the game I’d tell you to play.

Halo Reach

Now this is a bit different. Halo is of course a sci fi shooter, set in the distant future. Typically we play as the character Master Chief but in Reach we play as the Spartan Noble 6. Reach is an incredibly sad story that ends with hope and is very comparable to Star Wars Rogue One. Of all the Halo games this is my favourite, humanity is struggling in the war against the Covenant, an alien alliance that are waging war against humanity and are far more advanced than humanity is. But despite the overwhelming odds in Reach Noble team continue the fight right up until the end. It's a story I find inspiring as it shows that against all odds it’s important not to give up.

Pokemon Soul Silver / Heart Gold

I joined the Pokemon band wagon a little late with my first Pokemon game, Soul Silver. At this point in the lifetime of Pokemon we only had four generations of Pokemon compared to nine now. As the largest entertainment brand in the world Pokemon needs no introduction but if you’ve never heard of it, Pokemon is short for pocket monsters and is all about a charming world where humans and Pokemon live alongside each other with the occasional Pokemon battles to keep things interesting. Pokemon Soul Silver is the game that got me into the franchise and has a huge amount of story content packed into the game, just when you think you’ve finished the game it turns out there is a whole other region for you to explore and you realise you’ve only completed about half the game… This very much shocked me as a child and I doubt I will play a game like this again with as much content. If you get a chance to play Soul Silver or Heart Gold I’d highly recommend it, its pixel art style makes a unique game to play in the current video game market.

Destiny 2

This one is a bit more complicated. I do not recommend you play this game if you’ve never played it before. At least not right now in 2026. As the majority of the content in the game was removed by Bungie, the creator, and that makes it very hard for new players to catch up and understand what is happening in the game unfortunately. But as someone who lived through the games release and played each expansion as it came out I can tell you if you didn’t get to experience it then you massively missed out and I’m so sorry you can’t experience that content now. But what is Destiny 2? It’s a sci fi looter shooter set in the far future. Humanity has lost and now is trying to recover. You play as a Guardian, a being with immense power. Over the years I’ve been playing this game I’ve had some of the most memorable moments I’ve ever experienced playing games, attempting day 1 raids, the new story campaigns, solo clearing dungeons, my first trials of osiris win and so much more. You had to be there and I hope that Destiny 2 will return to my life at some point or… maybe a Destiny 3.

So there you have it! My top 5 games that I’ve ever played, these games have had the most impact on me and I’d recommend you go play them all (except Destiny 2 unless you’ve played it before)! They’ve all had such an influence on me and will forever be incredibly dear to me. Let me know what your top 5 games are in the comments below!
